This kit is made up of 8 key components: TiC Shift Linkage Bushings, TiC Pivot Bushings, TiC Crossmember Bushings, TiC Linkage Update, Kartboy Front and Rear Shifter Stay Bushings, the Kartboy Shifter Lever, and Group N Transmission Mount. Together, they transform the shifting experience in your Subaru.
The Complete Setup
- Combine the bushings and lever, and you get a shifter setup that transforms your car. Every gear snaps into place with satisfying precision, making the entire driving experience more engaging and enjoyable. Warning: once installed, you may find it impossible to resist snapping through the gears.
TiC Shift Linkage Bushings
- These replace the soft rubber bushings in the shift linkage joint. Over time, the stock bushings “pack out,” creating excessive side-to-side slop at the end of the stick. Whether your Subaru is an early or later model, and whether you have the stock shifter, optional STi/SPT short shifter, or another aftermarket lever, the stock bushings allow sloppy, vague shifts. Our stiffer polyurethane bushings minimize side-to-side play, prevent packing out, and give your shifts a much more positive, precise engagement—while keeping NVH close to stock.
TiC Crossmember Bushings
- These replace the stock rubber bushings with stiffer urethane for a tighter, more responsive driveline.
TiC Linkage Update
- The TiC Linkage Update is the most effective way to eliminate shifter slop in pre-2006 Subaru 5MT models. This kit replaces the non-serviceable factory linkage with an updated assembly featuring our stiffer polyurethane bushings and custom hardware. Once installed, the TiC Linkage Update transforms a loose, worn-out shifter into a tight, precise, and confidence-inspiring setup—exactly how it should feel from the factory.
Kartboy Front and Rear Shifter Stay Bushings
- Subaru uses soft rubber for the shift lever’s hard mounting points, which results in vague fore-and-aft motion. The Kartboy stay bushings replace the stock rubber with stiffer urethane, eliminating slop and giving each gear a crisp, positive click. The result is a shift feel that is much tighter and more responsive.
Kartboy Shifter Lever
- This short shifter upgrade reduces overall shift throw by 40%, delivering a sharper, more precise feel every time you change gears. The shift knob height is also lowered by 1 inch, creating a sportier and more ergonomic driving position. Precision-built from CNC-machined and TIG-welded 4130 chromoly steel, this shifter is engineered for strength and durability. Installation is quick and straightforward, requiring only basic hand tools and taking under 30 minutes.
OEM STI Group N Transmission Mount
- These Mounts are made of a stiffer material then the stock mounts. These will reduce the motion of your engine during Acceleration, Hard Cornering, and High Revving. They give you a better feel of the engine through the shifter lever and Channel more power through the drivetrain.
Notes:
- Direct fitment for 1999-2005 5MT Imprezas
- 1997-1998 5MT cars with external return spring will require a small hole to be drilled in the linkage in order to hook up the spring
- 1993-1996 5MT cars can use the TiC Linkage Update if the shifter assembly is updated to a post 1996 design
Which shifter do I need?
- If your shifter fork width is 1.155″ (inches), you will need the Narrow Barrel Shifter
- If your shifter fork width is 1.435″ (inches), you will need the Wide Barrel Shifter, or the TALL Wide Barrel Shifter
