Description

These are the brand-new pivot bushings for the 6MT transmission. These bushings are installed directly in the shifter lever under the leatherette shift boot, not down by the transmission, making them easy to replace from inside the car in just a few minutes.

Upgrading to these bushings noticeably improves shift feel, making the shifter tighter, more precise, and enjoyable to use. They are a direct replacement for the stock pivot bushings, which can wear over time and create slop in the lever.

Installation is similar to the 5MT version but requires patience, as the fit is tighter. Avoid using channel locks or vise grips; instead, use a C-clamp with smooth surfaces. Take your time to ensure proper alignment and lubrication.

Installation Overview

  1. Unscrew the shift knob and remove the shift boot.
  2. Remove trim to access the shifter pivot.
  3. Using two 12mm wrenches, remove the pivot bolt.
  4. Push out the old stock sleeve and remove the old bushings.
  5. Grease the inside of the pivot tube and press the new bushings in, ensuring they are straight.
  6. Grease the inside of the bushings and press in the new metal sleeve.
  7. Grease the faces of the bushings that contact the control rod clevis and slide the assembly into place.
  8. Insert the pivot bolt and torque to 8 lb-ft.
  9. Allow the bushings to seat after a short period of use for optimal performance.

These bushings are engineered for a snug fit, long-lasting performance, and a noticeably improved shifting experience. Proper lubrication and patience during installation will ensure the best results.

Note: 2008-2021 STI Owners: Subaru made a change to the shifter design in 2008.

  • If you are installing a Kartboy or other aftermarket shift lever, you need this version of the pivot bushings.
  • If you are keeping the stock shift lever, you need the 5MT wide pivot bushings.
