Description
Ditch your VB WRX’s leaky factory turbo inlet and upgrade to the Overtake Cast Aluminum Unit. This high-strength aluminum inlet improves airflow and fixes two big flaws in the factory inlet, allowing for optimal intake temperatures and better boost response.
Modern vehicles route fuel vapors back into the engine to be burned, using a sealed EVAP system and a purge solenoid. At idle, the solenoid draws vapors into the intake manifold. Under light boost (0–4 psi), manifold pressure is too high, so vapors are routed to the turbo inlet, where natural suction pulls them in.
The issue on the VB WRX is that the EVAP sensor sits far from the inlet, and the long hose between them results in weak pressure readings. To compensate, Subaru drilled a 4mm hole in the compressor housing to create a venturi-style “ejector.” This intentional boost leak forces extra airflow through a small passage in the inlet, creating artificial vacuum so the sensor sees the pressure drop it expects.
The downside: even at wide-open throttle—when the purge solenoid is closed—the ejector continues leaking boost. The turbo must work harder to maintain target pressure, increasing charge temps, reducing intercooler efficiency, and limiting top-end airflow. Subaru also routes coolant under the inlet to prevent the ejector orifice from freezing, but this heats the inlet to roughly 200°F, warming the incoming air and further reducing performance.
As a solution, the OVERTAKE Turbo Inlet uses the engine’s vacuum pump as a stable, dedicated vacuum source and locates the connection closer to the EVAP sensor. Because the pump is normally used only for power brakes, the kit includes a restrictor pill to ensure correct vacuum levels without affecting braking performance. This maintains proper vapor management without relying on Subaru’s built-in boost leak.
With no need for the ejector orifice, the coolant loop under the inlet can be bypassed, allowing significantly cooler, denser air to reach the turbo. The OVERTAKE inlet also removes the factory inlet’s internal sound-damping pockets, replacing them with a smooth, uninterrupted path that increases airflow speed and improves turbo efficiency.
